Introducing our 'Sappho' shirt. Sappho was an early sixth / seventh centuries BCE Greek poet from the island of Lesbos (also spelt Lesvos). Much of Sappho's poetry is lost, but here is a little snippet from Ode to Aphrodite where she asks the goddess to ease the pains of her unrequited love for a woman.
Come to me now thus, Goddess, and release me
From distress and pain; and all my distracted
Heart would seek, do thou, once again fulfilling,
Still be my ally!"
Hmm...relatable in a timeless fashion, no?
Lesbians from around the world started visiting Skala Eressos in the 70s, and for decades now Skala Eressos offered the opportunity truly to relax and to be yourself.

A popular destination throughout the summer it has a great finale to the season with the 'Sappho Women - International Womens Festival' where you can see a brilliant mix of performers, caberet shows, drag king competition and DJ's. Returning this year for a 20th anniversary celebration after a pause in 2020 it is well worth checking out.

GFW Clothing has a little pop up at the rock swim so if you are going this year do come and say hello.
Those of you who have visited Skala Eressos will no doubt recognise on our shirt the famous landmark rock where there is a daily swim to from the beach. We can't wait to return there this year if the pandemic allows.
